Dawson Apartment

Located in the southwestern fringe of central Singapore, this apartment is designed for a young couple in their early thirties. Trained as an industrial designer, the client has a love for texture and natural materials. Besides the functional requirements, the brief was also to keep the space minimal and fuss-free.

The space was initially divided into many rooms with a small living area. Therefore, an open plan that combines the living, dining, and cooking area was proposed to suit the couple’s lifestyle needs better.

Warm-toned lime-based plaster that unifies the wall, floor and ceiling was used in the entire house. The monolithic finish allows the space to feel more spacious, with its handmade texture, reminiscent of pottery, brings a tactile human touch, keeping the space cosy with a strong sense of ease. The reconfigured open plan allows the use of furniture pieces that are generous in proportion enabling the couple to host large gatherings. They are kept low and grounded to ensure a cosy and intimate scale within the open space.

Natural materials such as timber, linen, wool and stones further exude comfort and warmth. The result is an undeniably soft and intimate atmosphere that welcomes when one enters the house.
